MyStory – Creating an ICT-based Inter-generational Learning Environment
History through life stories
History is larger than history books. History is life in its complexity: people, actions, feelings, dreams, opinions and interpretations, experience - all of them put together to engage the receiver (be it reader or listener) in a dynamic relation with a past which can only be accessed through the stories of those who have lived it.
This is how MyStory team looks at history – a continuous, active relation between past, what once happened, and present – the young generation in search of an identity of their own. Unless you know your roots there is little hope that you can build yourself a relevant future. Discover the past of the people around you and learn more than just historical events. Listen to their stories, look into their life experience and your own life might all of a sudden take another turn, get a completely new meaning.
MyStory in action
Life stories are an invaluable resource. MyStory team are planning to collect a database of life stories from people in Finland, Lithuania, Romania, Slovenia and UK and engage young people in volunteering to collect stories. We are also open to collaborators from other countries who can enrich our database with stories from their countries. Write to us at info(a)mystory.eu and find out more about how you can become part of our team.
Database of interviews and stories
The stories collected within the project will be processed into 10-15 minute films presenting stories on various themes. These will be freely accessible on the project website. The full-lenght interviews collected in the project will be archived in the database offered to those interested in developing these materials in other directions.
Training and initiation
The project also offers free training to volunteer story collectors and international collaboration opportunities to engage young people in to intergenerational socialisation and support. Seniors who volunteer to share their stories will be initiated in the basic use of computers and internet to be able to access the project story database and communicate online with other story tellers from a different country.
We are confident that MyStory will engage people in both the collection and valorisation of life stories and we are eager to share this entire experience with you.
